The Top 10 Footballers in 2019-20 Season
Ranking the best player in any season can be difficult when there are so many teams boasting so many good players. But if choosing a few players is difficult, getting people on the same page and agree with you is even more formidable and gruesome. For it always feels subjective, based on personal opinion. Almost everybody has some other player in their mind, who they regard as a better option. But since there’s no clear cut path to handpick the best player, we are embracing this and list the top-10 players who have been the most consistent and clearly the best in 2019-20 season:
- Lionel Messi: Arguably the best player on the planet at the moment. Barcelona are beyond average without him. He ticks them on and off the field. We can praise him all day long, can fill the entire article with superlatives praising him, still, the whole narrative may not do justice to his importance to Barcelona and the world of football. When the Catalan giants are in action, Messi is the first choice for every Fantasy Football Player.
- Robert Lewandowski: On current form, the Polish international is the best striker on the planet. He is the only player in Europe this season to rack up more than 40 goals and the season is still far away from completion. The former Borussia Dortmund man leads the scoring charts in Bundesliga with 25 goals. He is a genuine contender for Ballon d’Or this season.
- Jordan Henderson: Liverpool captain seems to be getting better and better with age. He has become the captain fantastic for JurgenKlopp and his troop. He is so versatile that there seems no fix position for him in the team, with Klopp using him in a variety of positions. Written off at the start of his Liverpool career by the fans and pundits alike, the former Sunderland player has silenced the voices doubting his ability with his sheer hard work and determination. Liverpool’s sole defeat in the Premier League came when he was not in the team.
- JosepIlicic: Hailed as a great talent, but cursed with a poor attitude, JosepIlici’s career has so far been a sad story of the player he could have been. But at 32, he is playing the best football of his life. He has been a true phenom, both in Serie and Europe. He scored all four goals in Atalanta’s magnificent 4-3 win over Valencia at Mestalla that saw the Italian outfit progress to the quarters for the first time. He has scored 21 times for Bergamo side this season.
- Cristiano Ronaldo: He may be on the wrong side of age, but the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has moulded his game to get the best out of his body. He doesn’t track back as he used to do when in prime but conserves energy for the critical situations, and that reflects in his output for the team. In fact, he has become more potent in front of the goal. Another player with a great profile on Dream11 match Prediction.
- Kevin de Bruyne: Arguably the best creative player in Europe at the moment. The 28-year-old is leading the assist chart in the Premier League this season with 16 and is only four shies of Thierry Henry’s record of 20 in one season. That tally also makes him the best creative player in Europe’s top five leagues. He created 23 chances for Manchester City this season, one more than Barcelona’s talisman Lionel Messi.
- Jadon Sancho: Neymar swapped shirt with his after the Champions League last -16 first-leg match, and hailed him as ‘special’. It’s not common hearing players praising an opponent player if you are not Messi or Ronaldo, but Sancho is special. He has the physical gifts and ingenuity to become a leading player in the near future.
- Thomas Muller: Dropped from Germany squad by Joachim L, and left on the fringes of Bayern Munich roster by the then manager Niko Kovac, it seems we were seeing the last of Thomas Muller playing for a big team and at the top level. But the 30-year-old forced his way back into the team with solid performances, and was so good that he kept Philippe Coutinho out of the playing 11 as well. Muller played a starry role in Bayern’s demolition of Chelsea in the first leg of Champions League last 16.
- KylianMbappe: He is special, as simple as that. For a player who has won a World Cup and is drawing comparisons with the best of the game, and that too at a tender age of just 21, it is just incredible and terrifyingly unbelievable where he can be when he reaches his prime. At the moment, he is outshining Neymar at Paris Saint-Germain.
- ErlingHåland: Why Manchester United didn’t try to sign him is a mystery, but Borussia Dortmund signed the young Norweigian for just €22.5m from Red Bull Salzburg in the January transfer window. And the 19-year-old didn’t take long to show that the amount was paltry in comparison to the player he is, as he scored with his first touch on his debut for Dortmund and capped off the brilliant performance with a hattrick. The football pundits around the world are ravishing about him, hailing him as someone who may define the 2020s.
