Not only winning but watching your favourite athlete win events, lifting iconic trophies is something that motivates youngsters, and here we take a look at some of the biggest trophies in sports.
FIFA World Cup Trophy (Football)
The trophy is given to World Cup-winning team every four years, The “FIFA World Cup Trophy” is made of gold, and it replaced the first world cup trophy called “Jules Rimet Trophy” after 1970 world cup. It was first introduced in the 1974 world cup and made of pure 18-carat gold and weighed roughly 6.1 kilograms. It is designed with two human bodies holding the earth.
The Ashes (Cricket)
Early history accounts vary but it’s generally perceived that after Australia won the test series in the year1882 in England. It was published in an article by “Sporting times” a British newspaper about “death of cricket in England and ashes set to be taken to Australia”.
Wimbledon (Men’s singles Tennis)
First-ever Wimbledon championship was hosted in 1877, and the men’s singles event winners took home the “Field Cup” trophy. After three successive wins by William Renshaw, retaining the “field cup (1877-83) and Champions Cup (1984-86). England Clubs was prompted to present a new silver-made trophy to the winner, and players were no longer allowed to keep the trophy regardless of how many times they win the event.
Webb Ellis Cup (Rugby)
After the introduction of Rugby World Cup 1987, Secretary of International Rugby Federation set off on finding an appropriate trophy for the world cup, and he visited “Garrard & Co” jewellers in London. He fancied the design of this trophy and presented it to countries participating in the first-ever Rugby world cup.
